Miss Venezuela wins Miss World beauty pageant crown

LONDON (AFP) - Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, was crowned the 2011 winner of the Miss World beauty pageant on Sunday at a glittering final ceremony in London.

Wearing a pink dress with diamante studs that had giant frills slashed below the waist, the 22-year-old threw her hands to her face as she was announced the winner.

Last year's Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States, placed the sparkling crown on her successor's head. 'I believe that the next Miss World should be a woman of responsibility and reason,' Ms Sarcos said before winning the title.

'I believe the woman should be committed to the organisation and help people in need. Beauty with a heart', added the Venezuelan, who works for a broadcasting company and has a degree in human resources. Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, was named the runner-up, while Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, came third in the contest, which was back in its home city to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Malaysia Fashion Show : The 1.79m-tall behavioural therapist is currently in Brazil preparing for the Miss Universe finals, which will air on Channel 5 at 9am on Sept 13.

Ms Lim, a National University of Singapore graduate, was crowned Miss Singapore Universe in July.

She followed in the footsteps of her mother, Ginny Lim, who was a Miss Singapore Universe finalist 30 years ago.

19-year-old Holly Carpenter Crowned Miss Ireland 2011

Holly Carpenter, Miss Universities, was crowned Miss Ireland 2011 on August 13, 2011 at the D4 Berkeley Hotel in Dublin. Holly is 19 year old and stands 1.77 m. She will represent Ireland in Miss World 2011 Pageant. The first runner-up was Rebecca Maguire. The second runner-up was Aisling Alcock.

Holly Carpenter from Raheny in Dublin is the representative of all the Universities in Ireland this year’s iMiss Ireland Pageant which took place in Ballsbridge Dublin on August 13th. Holly is 19 and going into her second year at NCAD in Textiles. Fun loving Holly likes art and crafts, taking pictures and fancy dress and was once mistaken for Kin Kardashian in New York! She said “I love Ireland and would be proud to represent my country. Let’s face it, I wouldn’t be able to do it for sport or the Eurovision but this is something I can do. I’m down to earth, up for the craic and have green eyes – Irish or what.”  

She will represent Ireland in Miss World 2011 Pageant.

Miss USA 2011 Contestants Gathered at the Palms Place Pool

The 51 contestants taking part in the “Miss USA 2011″ pageant gathered in Las Vegas this weekend to kickstart the activities that will last for two weeks, concluding with the crowning of a new titleholder on June 19th. On Sunday, the beauties took part in a photoshoot at the Palms Place pool in the Palms hotel. This Monday, Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino will roll out the red carpet for 51 of the world’s most beautiful women when the resort hosts the official Las Vegas welcome event for the 2011 MISS USA Pageant. The ceremony, hosted by Jeff Timmons, star of 98 Degrees and current resident guest star of Chippendales at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, and the reigning Miss USA, Rima Fakih, will kick-off two weeks of action-packed activities for the contestants who will reside in Las Vegas until the pageant is telecast live from Planet Hollywood on Sunday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. For pageant fans who have followed Miss USA/Universe for decades, it is worth nothing that after more than 40 years, the style of the traditional sashes has been replaced.

'I do think it's a state of mind,' says the original French supermodel turned designer and fashion consultant - and, more recently, and much to her surprise, best-selling style book author.

'There are people who want to buy a lot. I'm the one saying, 'Don't buy a lot - buy the good things'.'

Since it came out in France last fall, La Parisienne has sold well over 100,000 copies, entertaining readers with its chummy, cheery prose and prompting an English version - Parisian Chic - for an Anglo-Saxon market crowded with finger-wagging what-not-to-wear guides.

'I didn't write it to be a best-seller,' said De La Fressange, 53, who last October reappeared on the pret-a-porter runway for Chanel, where she attained iconic status as Karl Lagerfeld's androgynous muse in the 1980s.
